Welcome to Click Click, the semi-regular roundup of what I find worth clicking on the internet.
- Sunny Fong reveals some of the techniques he used to create his VAWK SS10 collection. Sunny is a technique-driven designer whose attention to flawless execution makes very difficult and time-consuming details seem effortless. So glad he is featuring his process on his site – something I wish there had been more of on PRC2. BONUS: Fashion-Incubator poses a pattern puzzle for one of his dresses.
- Speaking of PRC2 alumni, this FAB article on “The Men of Project Runway Canada” is beyond hilarious.
- An interesting project exploring Cost Per Wear by an old fashion blog friend.
- Matt Tyrnauer talks about his struggle to finance the Valentino documentary, and the breakthroughs he achieved by pushing through the adversity. I so admire his guts! Tom Ford is another fashion film-maker who financed his own film. It seems like creating truly original art these days takes the kind of risk that established systems are too scared to take.
- George Lois, the magazine designer who is best remembered for some of Esquire’s gutsiest covers in the 1960s lets loose on the failings of modern magazines. “All I was trying to do was say to the world, ‘Hey this magazine is hot stuff.’”
- Derek McCormack and Nathalie Atkinson talk fur… and it is complicated. My own feelings? Fur is an incredible textile which offers qualities that no other fabric can give. Unethical production of fur is intolerable, but I find the wholesale dismissal of fur to be too simplistic.
- Post fashion season reflections on the new status of fashion bloggers are all over the internet. The Fight of the Fashion Bloggers. Fashion Blogging: The Road Ahead. Style Bloggers take Center Stage. Fashion 2.0 – Social Media Reality Check.
- Thanks to so many of you for sending me this NY Times post about fashion illustration.
As always, karma for friendly linkers and commenters…
- Jennifer Campbell at FASHION interviews me about my paper doll book.
- flatsfunfashion – “what a lifestyle editor does when she’s not at work”
- Couture Millinery Atelier – “I am a Modiste – designer of fabulous hats, little masterpieces for my own Atelier.”
- Shopsterium – “University of Toronto student bringing you fresh style ideas.”
- Reflections of an Effervescent Dreamer – “Always a dreamer, Miss Jao was proclaimed effervescent by an adjudicator on the morning of Thursday, February 17th at the 1994 Greater Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival”
- Outsapop Trashion - “I´m a crafty fashionaddicted girl from Finland.”
