vidal sassoon haircut

Ever since I saw Sarah Nicole’s sharp haircut from Vidal Sassoon at the last TFBB I have had a case of haircut envy. Having gone to four fashion weeks (two whole seasons) in New York and Toronto with the same haircut, I was feeling like the scruffiest kid in the tents this season. But when my trip budget to go to New York is meager $250, I choose to hold out for a free haircut from people who know how to do downtown hair. I am always willing to wait it out. Topcuts is anathema to poor snobs like me.

The good people at Vidal Sassoon and Budman PR rescued my silly head today. Elisa, fresh from London England, was holding the scissors. I gave her my parameters – I am a bohemian type who is very open to suggestion, but I don’t like fussing with my hair like some do. I admire the iconic Vidal Sassoon look exemplified by Peggy Moffitt but my own hair is a bit too wavy to reproduce the cut exactly. Mostly I just wanted that downtown cool hair that girls like Sarah Nicole have. I want hair so cool that it gets invited to more parties than I do.

So I let Elisa take it from there. She has terrific hair herself so it was easy to trust her choices. She gave me short-ish bangs – a look I have never had before. They are very crisp and modern looking, my face is a new shape now. I like how they do not interfere with my glasses. I may have to break down and buy my first blowdryer to keep them up – perish the thought. I seem to be getting more girlish every day. She cut it short in the back and sides too. She also left a little bit of the natural wispy-ness of my hair in, instead of using the flat-iron. A good finish for today – the cut still looks fresh even after I walked in the rain.

Elisa told me that she was using a technique she just learned in the workshop the day before. Afterwards she styled me up all avant garde and took me down to the school to show off my hair, and took a few pictures. Everyone liked it. I always get a kick out of seeing the craft of haircuts happen, so when I do get the opportunity I like to let the stylist show me what she can do.

All around me a lot of lovely ladies were getting some nice uptown hairdos too. If you can afford it, call Vidal Sassoon and you’ll get turned out well whenever you want to – or if you are fabulously broke and open minded, model calls for the school are usually Wednesday nights at 6pm – check Craigslist to confirm.

    4. What did you do to your beautiful hair!!?? I would have died for hair like yours!!!

I like it. Even if it does remind me of Spock. Spock was a very handsome Vulcan and you shouldn’t be ashamed.

    7. Bought a hairdryer and tried it out. Yes, I can style it myself at home! Fringes are fun.

Ryan – live long and prosper.

Truc, Wendy, Tricia, thanks so much!

Kat – you kinda seem like spam, but I’m not sure?

Jen – no two haircuts are ever equal eh? Still, I have been seeing a few fashion bloggers with nice cuts about. I’m glad she didn’t go full-on moffitt on me, actually, I’m liking the shorter bangs. My BF is not so sure of course ;)

    9. So pretty! You look sort of otherworldly (in a good way, not a video game fan convention way). I may try the Vidal Sassoon tip soon…I’m getting SO sick of paying more than sixty-five dollars for my simple chop-with-bangs.
