You make a good point Maria.

To me, part of the liberation thing is admitting that women have the power to make their own sexual choices and the responsibility to deal with the consequences. "He made me do it" is a bogus excuse to avoid paying the price of the sex/power/fame game.

The actions of these women and Dov Charney seem to be very deliberate to me, not coerced - they were there to shock. It's their choice.

The problem with the sex is that it seems that there is a "fame" factor in exchange for the sexy images. I mean, is not like this girls are interested in the dude per se...more like the AA BOSS. It is the same power game involving sex, but of course when it is framed under a liberation tag anything goes.

My problem with AA and the sex thing is that the man is the one making the big bucks...like a super pimp dressed in cotton suits.

I'm past square. I'd be so far out of my element it's indescribable ... but I'm also not part of the market AA is shooting for!

I also find the American Apparel story fascinating. I don't know where to begin - from the sexual antics described above, to the socially conscious working conditions, to a firm grasp of social media culminating in the first retailer to open shop in Second Life.

I'm too square for this type of work environment as well. Maybe it's me but I find the clothing quite basic. Perhaps that's why Charney relies so heavily on sexualizing his product - it sure draws a lot of attention.
