Lee Jeans

what I wear — Danielle on May 10, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Lee JeansThis weekend seemed like it would be very busy, and then yesterday things changed and it turns out it is not so busy today at all.

Since I was not chained to my pen, I did very pleasant things like have brunch with Carolyn at Edward Levesque’s Kitchen, checking out the gorgeous Horst photography at Pentimento, walking through lovely Leslieville, visiting the Damzels, reading the Post and the Globe in the park.

While I was walking I did something I rarely do – I poked into Value Village. In my youth I wasted a lot of money and space on crappy used clothes but recently I have become more fussy and focused and rarely buy… unless…

…it is classic denim. I like things that reek of authenticity and Lee Jeans have got that sturdy quality, undistressed and not stretchy.  This tiny pair fits the way I wish modern high waisted jeans fit. It was hemmed to fit someone much shorter than I am so I chopped it a bit higher, it will go well for summer and also to wear with my Bond Girl boots all year around.

The lucky strike hit twice when I found the shoes. I am always on the lookout for cute flats with ankle straps and these ones miraculously fit; they’ve never been worn and they have crepe soles that make a clover shape when you step with them. That they have braided T-straps just takes it over the top for me. Lucky!

Have you found any good thrifty things lately?

  1. The other day I traveled into a store called Crossroads, they have several stores located in San Francisco, Modesto, Berkeley. It is a thrift shop working with the idea of attire recycling, creating profit through buy and sell exchanges. Most of the clothes are simple (plain T’s, jeans, hats, silver jewelry, stone and gem rings) some brand names (Gap, Old Navy, Forever 21) and mainly targeted for teens, early 20′s. I found an adorable spaghetti strap top. It is tricolored with deep purple, magenta and a beautiful dark teal. It is slightly ruffly in form and the straps are relatively thin, maybe 3 centimeters in width. I am not sure who the designer is, the label was removed this time. The best piece about this jewel in the rough: 7 dollars!

  5. You know that I love them because no one else is wearing them like that (I am so over overworked denim). Ladylike 50s looks came back in style a few seasons back, but I’ve always preferred those 50s bad girls. That’s what those jeans say to me.

  6. Over the past month or so, I found 3 gorgeous cocktail dresses at VV – two need some adjustments and re-work but nothing major. I cannot describe how excited I was.
