Project Runway Canada 2

I am posting my thoughts on each episode of my favourite show, Project Runway Canada, in case you are watching too and want to discuss it.

Before the post today, I have some very sad news about Danio.  My deepest sympathies to his family for their loss.  It was interesting to learn a little more about this very talented man, and it is so unfortunate we were not able to see more of his designs on the show.

More after the gap —

Once there are fewer designers, the show gets much, much better.  Seeing how the designers try to solve each challenge is my favourite part of the show.  I got to watch the show with Meg O. of The Deadly Nightshades and we had a good time!

This week’s challenge was to create a perfect day-to-night spring dress.  My girl Jessica won!!  With a dress that I loved – in fact, I want to buy it, and I can – at Winners.  Yay!  Sunny’s design was also incredibly wantable and well cut.

Kim can’t stop gaming and picking on Jeff, and considering it was her opportunity to wow us, her dress was merely nice.  Jason’s snap dress was a bit gimmicky (like in the first challenge) and did not seem to fit with the Winners look. When Iman said “No,” to the snaps on the runway it was a classic moment. Genevieve is incapable of listening and it puts her in danger of elimination.  She is talented enough to win but she never does because she doesn’t design for the challenges, she only designs for herself.

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff.  His idea of “out of the box” was incredibly pedestrian, and once again he made a design choice that he did not have time to execute, with absurd and embarassing results.  Frankly, entertaining to watch even as it makes you cringe.

Did you see the show?  What did you think?

  1. The problem with Jeff wasn’t that he had great vision and not enough time or material to execute his designs; it’s that he really doesn’t understand when he’s made something old and tired.

Drama through the roof! I don’t love Jeff’s designs, but if I had been in that room, I would have stood up for him. No one deserves to get torn apart like that.

I wonder if Kim can make a positive image for herself now that Jeff is gone or if she will find someone/thing else to blame when things go wrong.

On the subject of friends/enemies: I always find it more interesting who someone has picked as a rival than as a friend. I loved the friendly rivalry between Jay and Austin from first season PR, for example. No one cares about the bottom feeders tearing each other apart though. It’s fluffy drama which is only fun until they’re gone and forgotten.

  2. Oh, and I’m so glad that Jessica won. I love her attitude — she radiates positivity.

This dress was bang-on. In the true spirit of Project Runway, she “made it work”; the original design went sideways, but she made it into something better.

Like everyone else, I think Sunny will won, but I will be sad if Biff doesn’t make it to the top three.
