project – tulle box

As part of the Style Advisory Council at the Textile Museum of Canada I was asked to submit a Shadowbox – an 8″ square work of art to be auctioned off in support of the museum.  I usually like to deliver early but this time I’m taking it in this morning – and the cocktail party and auction are tonight.  That’s tight!
tulle box

This is my piece – the Tulle Box – isn’t that a terrific pun?  It is the offcuts of tulle from another project I am working on, gathered up into the box and obsessively trimmed back to create this lovely effect of texture, depth and form.  Inspired by all the tremendous work with tulle created by designers such as Viktor & Rolf and Hussein Chalayan, it was a lot of fun to try my own hand at this technique.  I hope a generous bidder agrees with me.

    1. it good be the perfect brooch if you make a smaller version :)

and with a safety pin underneath will be able to attach it everywhere – on clothing, on headbands, on necklaces, even on gloves and scarves… you should definitely try it :)))

    6. It looks like a Scabiosa caucasica ‘Alba’.

    8. Thank you folks! I love the glass and the flowers too. There’s something just fun about making this, touching it, trimming it.
