LG Fashion Week in Toronto is gearing up with shows offsite and on.  This season, I am doing watercolour pencil sketches on 4″x6″ postcards at all the shows I am invited to.  The original artwork is for sale for just $50 CDN – if you’d like to receive a fashion postcard, email me for details. *Update* the Philip Sparks postcard has been sold! Stay tuned next week for more postcards from more fashion shows.

Philip Sparks FW09

Philip Sparks‘ Fall 2009 show was inspired by Peter and the Wolf and early Canadian fur trappers.  When we were in NYC last season I got to go to the public library with Philip to do some research.  Finally seeing it all come together on the runway feels very special!

Backstage after the show, I asked Philip about how he interpreted his inspiration – some of the outfits seem to represent characters in Peter and the Wolf, was that intentional?  He told me that there were a few that were obvious, but he made the effort not to be too literal – for instance the outfit above was his interpretation of the duck – but Canadianized with intarsia geese knitted into the sweater.
