We truly live in a marvellous age. In the 2 years since I’ve started blogging, audio and video are transforming the content we see online. Whether it’s seeing the models walking the runway or listening to the bloggers and writers we used to read, the richness of the content available is endless.
The TED Conference features great speakers on Technology, Entertainment and Design, and now they’re releasing videos of these lectures online for free. I’ve barely scratched the surface, but here are some of my picks so far:
Malcom Gladwell on lessons learned from spaghetti sauce.
Dan Gilbert on our ability to manufacture happiness.
Stephen Levitt on the economic structure of inner-city gangs.
A favourite – Hans Rosling shows the power of design to bring statistics to life.

Dan, I love how you take something so seemingly unrelated to fashion and turn it into something totally relevant. You really see the big picture & it’s one of the things I like best about your blog. I can’t wait to dive into these while I’m sewing tonight!
Okay – I’ve watched a few of them, and it’s hilarious that Malcom Gladwell and Barry Schwartz (sic?) completely contradict each other… but I think they’re both wrong.
Neither of them even touch on human relationships when they’re talking about happiness. They keep relating our ‘choices’ directly to happiness, as though owning things was the only way to be happy. But that’s not what makes me happy at all….
I know, right?
People need more choices! People have too many choices!
Many were very enjoyable though. I liked Barry Schwartz’s better. I think it’s applicable to markets and life. Our perception that we need to have choices doesn’t necessarily make us happier. It’s a contrary notion so of course it interests me.

I’ve already seen 2006 TED Prize winner Cameron Sinclair’s “Design Like You Give A Damn” lecture in person and was very inspired.
Maybe you will be too.
